Students must supply their own ammunition for all classes. It should be noted, however, that at the indoor junior range, there are some limitations. No jacketed or semi-jacketed ammunition, or hot loads, may be used. Magnum loads, +P, ++P, etc., are prohibited, as are all 9mm Luger loads. Lead target loads, in most calibers, are acceptable, as are most .22 rimfire loads.

NRA BASIC RIFLE CLASS
This is an entry level course taught by NRA Certified Rifle instructors, and is designed to teach the five fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, with its emphasis on target (as opposed to field) marksmanship. These positions will be taught: benchrest, prone, standing, kneeling, and sitting. There will also be instruction in the use of the loop sling and adjustable aperture sights.
A very heavy emphasis will be placed on firearms safety, as well as indoctrination in maintenance (cleaning the rifle), rifle actions, rifle selection, ammunition, storage, etc. Instruction techniques will include lecture, demonstration, video presentation, written homework, a final exam, and hands-on experience on the firing line.
The course fee is $25.00 for juniors, or $30.00 for adults, who are also welcome in the program. Courses will be held at Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club’s Junior Indoor range. Classes are scheduled three or four times a year, according to need. It takes six or seven students to form a class.

NRA BASICS OF PERSONAL PROTECTION CLASS
This course, taught by NRA certified personal protection instructors, is aimed specifically at basically non-gun people who have either bought, or are considering buying, a pistol for their personal protection (or home defense), and are concerned about the safe use and storage of this weapon.
In addition to the defensive use of a weapon, and correct techniques of shooting a pistol, consideration will also be given to home security and avoiding, or controlling, potentially dangerous situations.
Live firing will be done from the benchrest position (primarily as an introduction to shooting), and the two handed standing position (using both the Weaver and the isosceles stance). Participants may use their own pistol, or a club owned .22 semi-automatic pistol, where needed.
A very heavy emphasis will be placed on firearms safety, as well as indoctrination in maintenance (cleaning the pistol), pistol actions and selection, ammunition, recommended calibers, storage, etc. Instruction techniques will include lecture, demonstration, video presentation, and hands-on experience on the firing line. There will be three to five class sessions (depending on need), totaling fifteen to sixteen hours.

ON-GOING JUNIOR PROGRAMS
NRA Junior Rifle Qualification:
This is a program through which juniors, through a once a week supervised shooting program, at the indoor junior range, not only improve their marksmanship, but at the same time, through their improvement, achieve NRA rankings and recognition beginning with pro-marksman, and extending upwards to as high as NRA distinguished expert. At each level, awards and certificates are presented to the student. The class meets on Friday evenings from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m.
In order to participate in this program, shooters must first show that they have successfully completed an NRA basic rifle class.
NRA Junior Pistol Qualification:
There is currently no junior pistol qualification. However, Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club will sponsor such a program upon sufficient demand.
Air Rifle Qualification Program:
Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club sponsors an on-going junior air rifle program, which includes basic instruction, coaching, qualification awards, and supervised shooting. Both NRA and American Legion training materials are used in this program. A certified BB program is also offered for younger students. These classes meet at the indoor range every Monday night from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
Junior Shooting Competitions:
Junior shooters, from the above programs, have opportunities to compete against other junior shooters in a variety of events. Our juniors compete each year in the Sooner State Games (Sportsfest) and American Legion or NRA postal matches. There are also periodic inter-club competitions for both teams and individuals. In addition to this, each year Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club sponsors a club junior championship tournament in smallbore rifle, pistol, air rifle, and BB rifle.
